Every October I notice the same thing in my chair. Clients sit down, look in the mirror and say, "I don't know what happened, my color just looks tired." What happened was summer. Pool days, lake weekends, long afternoons at the vineyards and all that beautiful Sonoma County sunshine slowly lift and fade your color until the shine is gone and the brass moves in.
The good news is that fall is my favorite season to fix it. After more than 25 years behind the chair, I can tell you that autumn is the perfect time to refresh your color, rebuild softness and step into something a little richer for the months ahead.
Why your color fades over the summer
Sun, chlorine, heat styling and dry air all break down the color molecules inside the hair. Blondes tend to turn yellow or brassy, brunettes go flat or slightly orange, and reds lose their depth fastest of all. The ends usually take the biggest hit because they have been through the most seasons. None of this means you did anything wrong. It simply means your hair is ready for a little love.
Fall color looks I love right now
My favorite fall shades are the ones that look expensive without looking overdone. A few of the looks I am creating most this season:
- Golden or honey blonde that keeps your brightness but swaps icy tones for warmth
- Rich chocolate and espresso brunettes with soft dimension around the face
- Copper and auburn tones that glow in candlelight and holiday photos
- A softened root or root shadow that lets your blonde grow out gracefully through the holidays
The right shade always depends on your skin tone, your eye color and how much upkeep you want. That is exactly what we talk through together before I ever open a tube of color.
The secret weapon: a gloss

If you are not ready for a big change, a Gloss Colorance service is one of the easiest ways to bring hair back to life. It adds shine, corrects unwanted tones and gives your color that fresh-from-the-salon finish in under an hour for fine hair. Every highlight service I do already includes Colorance, but a gloss on its own between appointments is a beautiful fall refresh.
Repair before you transform
If your ends feel dry or straw-like, I will often recommend starting with a conditioning treatment and a trim before going darker or brighter. Healthy hair holds color longer, reflects more light and simply looks better in photos. It also sets you up for a much smoother holiday season.
Your fall refresh starts with a conversation
Clients come to me from all over Windsor, Santa Rosa, Healdsburg and the rest of Sonoma County because they want more than a quick appointment. They want someone who listens, explains what is possible and creates color that fits their real life. That is the experience I have built at Boujee Beauty Bar, and it is why so many of my clients have been with me for years.
If your hair has been feeling a little tired, now is the moment to give it the attention it deserves before the holiday calendar fills up.

Take a look at my services and pricing, then book your appointment whenever you are ready.
